Honoring the creators who have used online film & video in entertaining and groundbreaking ways.
The 26th Annual Webby Awards is honored to recognize Mark Rober as the 2021 Webby Film & Video Person of the Year for using his platform to educate people and encourage them to keep experimenting, while at home—notably through his science YouTube channel and Livestream classes.
As a former NASA and Apple engineer, Mark Rober has cemented himself as one of the Internet’s most beloved engineers, makers and YouTube luminaries. Since recording his first viral YouTube video in 2011, Mark has amassed over 16.5 million subscribers to his channel through his science experiments. With most people at home and engaging in remote learning due to the global pandemic, Mark’s live Science Classes and 30-day courses with Monthly provide learners of all ages a direct outlet to engage with science and experiment through creative engineering. Moreover, Mark also uses his online platform to advocate for important issues such as climate change and has called for the U.S.’ agriculture sector to revamp its practices to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
For encouraging learners of all ages to lean into their passions for STEM, and for providing people around the world a direct outlet to experiment as the Internet’s favorite engineer, it is our privilege to honor Mark Rober as the 2021 Webby Film & Video Person of the Year.
