About Webby Special Achievement
Special Achievement honors those whose work has improved upon the experience and capabilities of the Internet in novel and impactful ways.
The 24th Annual Webby Awards is honored to present Google Classroom with a 2020 Webby Special Achievement Award for serving as a critical educational tool to keep young students learning and engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As we collectively navigate the severe, global impact of COVID-19 and increased social distancing, it is more crucial than ever to have digital tools to help people from all walks of life, especially students, remain connected and engaged in their education. Google Classroom has become that tool, with over 50 million global downloads, as students, educators, and parents learn remotely. Google Classroom embraces and demonstrates what's most important about the promise of the Internet: that people will continue to innovate on the technologies we have to help others adapt to current realities, and pursue their education remotely even during the most unprecedented times.
For helping students and educators around the world, and for expanding the possibilities of learning together in our current climate through muli-person educational tools, it is our pleasure to honor Google Classroom with a 2020 Webby Special Achievement Award.
